This one has proper presence. In flatter light Tanzanite Blue can look almost black, then as the light catches it the blue metallic comes through and completely changes the car. Paired with the 22-inch Style 742 M wheels, black Vernasca leather and BMW Individual Piano Black trim, it gives this M50d a particularly strong look before you even get into the specification.

That specification is one of the main reasons we bought it. It has seven seats, Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, adaptive two-axle air suspension, Integral Active Steering, Technology Package, Crafted Clarity glass controls, acoustic glazing and the Travel and Comfort System. The Sky Lounge roof uses integrated lighting within the panoramic glass to create an illuminated pattern at night, while the air suspension can raise or lower the vehicle and also self-levels depending on load. Integral Active Steering turns the rear wheels as well as the fronts, helping make something this size noticeably easier to manoeuvre at lower speeds while improving stability at higher speeds.

Then there is the engine. BMW gave the M50d a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel with four turbochargers, producing 400 hp and 760Nm of torque. On paper it reaches 62mph in 5.2 seconds, but the more noticeable part on the road is how effortless that torque feels in something this large. It has huge reserves of power without needing to be worked hard.

This particular example drives very well too. It feels substantial rather than cumbersome, with the air suspension and rear-wheel steering helping disguise some of its size, while the seven-seat layout makes it genuinely useful rather than simply impressive on paper.

The history is another strong point. It has remained with BMW main dealers throughout, most recently receiving an oil service and inspection at 38,924 miles in August 2026. We have subsequently completed our own inspection together with pollen and air filters, wipers and brake fluid.

It is being sold simply because the previous owner has moved into a newer vehicle and remains completely standard.

For us, the appeal is the combination: Tanzanite Blue, seven seats, Sky Lounge, air suspension, rear-wheel steering and one of BMW’s most interesting diesel drivetrains, backed up by consistent BMW main dealer maintenance.
