The Carbon Black is a particularly appealing version, and this car has the interior to match. The carbon-fibre inlays against the gloss-black trim look excellent, giving the cabin a darker, more purposeful feel without losing the quality you expect from Audi. The digital cockpit brings the driving information to life, while the Bang and Olufsen sound system, ambient lighting and panoramic roof make it just as enjoyable to settle into for a long journey. The front seats are heated and include a massage function, with three-zone climate control keeping everyone comfortable.

What makes the RS4 special, though, is how much control it gives you over its character. Select RS mode and you can tailor the engine response, steering, engine sound and quattro system to suit the drive. The sport differential adds another layer to the way the car puts its power down through corners, helping it feel more agile and involving when the road opens up. The RS Monitor is a particularly good touch for an enthusiast, displaying information including sport differential temperature and engine and gearbox oil temperatures. These are details that make the car more than just a powerful estate with an RS badge.

It remains a practical car, too. The service history is a real positive, with Audi main-dealer servicing recorded every year from 2021 through to 2026. Its most recent service, at 36,843 miles, included an oil change and new spark plugs. We have since inspected the car, replaced the wipers and fitted brand-new rear brake discs and pads.

It sits on Pirelli P Zero tyres all round, and the annual road tax is £200.

Power comes from Audi's 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6, producing 444 hp and delivered to all four wheels through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. With 444 hp, quattro traction and the added ability of the sport differential, this RS4 has the performance to make full use of its RS credentials, wrapped in a practical estate that can comfortably handle everyday life.
