Every so often, an SVR comes along that reminds you exactly why these cars have such a following. This is one of them. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 sounds phenomenal, and it is the way it delivers that sound that makes the experience so special. The sharp crack on an upshift, the deep V8 roar under acceleration and those unmistakable pops on the downshifts give this car a character that is difficult to replicate. It is properly theatrical, and it makes even an ordinary drive feel like an occasion.

Then there is the performance. With 550 hp going through all four wheels, the acceleration is genuinely ridiculous for something of this size. What impresses most, though, is how composed it remains when you start to use that performance. It feels planted and controlled, rather than top-heavy or unsettled, and has a remarkable ability to cover ground at speed while retaining the comfort you expect from a Range Rover Sport.

Tanzanite Blue is a huge part of this particular car's appeal. It has real presence in the shade, but in direct sunlight the colour comes alive, bringing out the depth and metallic finish in a way that makes the bodywork look almost sculpted. Paired with the white and black perforated leather, it is a striking combination. It is the sort of colour that makes you look back at the car after parking it.

The interior is equally special. The memory bucket-style seats, finished in white and black leather with SVR embroidery, immediately set the tone, while the carbon fibre interior trim and extended leather add to the sense that this is something beyond an ordinary Range Rover Sport. The specification also includes a tilt-and-slide panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, Meridian sound system, adaptive cruise control and 360-degree cameras.

Two particularly desirable features are the heads-up display and soft-close doors. Both add to the experience without shouting about themselves, and it is a combination we are always pleased to find. There is also a fridge within the centre armrest, along with the useful double sun visor arrangement.

The service history is another reason we chose this example. It has a particularly good service portfolio, predominantly with Range Rover main dealers, with recorded maintenance including oil services, inspections, brake fluid, spark plugs and, importantly, transfer case and rear differential servicing. It gives a reassuring picture of a car that has received proper attention throughout its life.

We will also carry out our own preparation before sale, including an oil service, inspection, air and pollen filters, brake fluid, wipers and brand-new front brake discs and pads.

The tyres are matching Continental SportContact 5s all round, replaced in 2024 and showing upwards of 5mm of tread. Inside, the cabin presents very well, complementing the overall impression of a properly cared-for example.

For us, the appeal is the complete package. Tanzanite Blue, the contrasting SVR interior, a strong service portfolio, excellent specification and that extraordinary supercharged V8 soundtrack. This is an SUV with genuine pace and composure, but it is the character of the engine that stays with you.
